Re: The habitat sees two more firsts

Moth caterpillars are definitely different than butterflies. While they eat and poop about the same that is where the similarity ends for me. I pretty much know what to provide for butterfly cats when they are ready to pupate.

With moths, some of them burrow underground. Some hide under leaf litter. Some make the cocoon on twigs. Plus I can't be sure on the amount of time it will take for the adult to emerge. It has been quite a learning experience.

You are so right about that. I just learned a few new things at the last meeting of the butterfly club. My friend Sean went with me. He is positively amazed by all of the things he is learning.

It turns out that the butterfly house is still looking for volunteers so I still have a chance. Think of all of the great learning opportunities there.

I still need to fill out the volunteer application. It is likely that I can turn it in when I go to the big release event on the 9th of next month.

You inspired the message. I just put your phrase into my own words.

I hope you get to turn in the application...and that they pick you to volunteer!

Well that saying suits this board to a "T"... emoticon

I checked the website and it says that the volunteer manager is supposed to be available on Saturdays. All I have to do is remember to find him. I doubt that I'll have any trouble being chosen.

The focus of the board was education from the start. I love to share what I know and learn from others too.

Well, all I know is that they'd be totally crazy NOT to have you on as a volunteer...I do not think I've ever met a more dedicated person about anything....than you are about your Butterflies and Moths.... emoticon

I am going to have such an advantage over many of the new volunteers. Each time that I visit I'm getting better at identifying the tropicals. The I look up more info about them. I'm going to know a lot before I even volunteer for my first shift. I've already been helping out some of the existing volunteers.
