Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
Here in Texas I leave them out at least until the first freeze. Even if there aren't hummingbirds I have found that my butterflies like the feeders too, as do Scarab Beetles apparently. Honeybees loves those feeders too.

Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
I had boy hummingbirds today. Usually the yellowjackets get me to take in my feeders. I haven't seen many of those this year. I had several hummingbirds at once today.

Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
Yellowjackets have been plentiful here unfortunately. I have actually watched them battle with the hummingbirds on occasion. What type of hummingbirds do you get there? I have seen both Ruby-throat and Black-chinned here.

Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
We only have Ruby-throat hummingbirds, here. I would love to see a Black-chinned one! I think they would be pretty far off course though.

Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
The first time that I saw a Black-chinned male I thought that it was a trick of the light that the throat flash was purple. I hurried inside to do some research on Texas hummingbirds and discovered what I had really seen. Below is the best shot I've managed to get of one.

Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
This year I haven't been able to get as close, or when I do I don't have the camera. I've had more than one come to within just a few feet of me when feeding but didn't have the camera.

Re: First Hummingbird of 2010
I think my hummingbirds have finally gone. I didn't see one today or yesterday.
