PK! I think we just traveled through a butterfly migration!
On our way here.....from Fort Stockton to Junction.....we literally "HIT" thousands of butterflies. In a way I was almost sick they were everywhere on the roads...
But I made Hubby stop at some rest stop just before or after Sonora (can't remember) and I got out to take some pictures.
I posted the ones I have at Queeny's;
HERE......
Are they migrating now?? Or was this just an amazing amount of Butterflies?

Queeny! Those butterflies are gorgeous! It is so sad that so many died but many more have survived.

You did indeed encounter part of the end of the Monarch migration. You are so lucky to have gotten to see a roost. I didn't see many Monarchs this year at all.

Oh, the whole time I was taking pictures, I was wishing you had been at my side!
I told Hubby that.....and he was like......"good thing she wasn't or none of us would have ever left the rest stop!"
He's probably right!

You would probably have had to tie me up and drag me away from a site like that. It just makes me want to visit the California overwintering sites that much more.

I thought that it might be easier to provide a link that shown a number of the winter sites.

Re: PK! I think we just traveled through a butterfly migration!
OH WOW.....having lived in California most of my life....(0 to 22) I have been to so many of those places and never knew!
Don't know if I'll ever get out there in the Winter, unless for some reason we stay out that way (overwinter, like the butterflies) LOL
But if we ever do, I have bookmarked that site.....just in case!

Re: PK! I think we just traveled through a butterfly migration!
Happily life is full of discoveries. When I was doing some more indepth research I settled on the Monterey area. Not only does it have good butterfly areas, there is an aquarium there. I really want to go.
