Found a very weird looking moth

While in the garden a few days ago I happened upon the weirdest looking moth that I've ever seen. I'll be posting photos so that you can see what I mean. The only reason that I even saw it is that I spotted a caterpillar within inches of where the moth was resting. I was so glad that the moth stayed put until I got back with the camera.

Ask and you shall receive. Look at those furry legs. It also looks like it is wearing a fur shawl and has a big black mohawk.

Not yet. It is very likely that I'll see my lepidopterist/butterfly farmer friend at the plant sale. I can't be sure if the entomologist from the butterfly house will be there that day or not. If I'm lucky I'll have two shots at IDs.

It is called a Pearly Wood Nymph. Here is another photo of it that I found on Google.

oh I love that name!! And now that you can see the whole thing, it's GORGEOUS!
"Pearly Wood Nymph"....
A nymph in Greek mythology is a minor female nature deity typically associated with a particular location or landform. There are 5 different types of nymphs, Celestial Nymphs, Sea Nymphs, Land Nymphs, Wood Nymphs and Underworld Nymphs... emoticon
In case you wanted some more useless information to stash away for a rainy day. emoticon

That name does beat some of the more odd sounding ones. I'm going to look up some more info on them. I'd like to know what its host plants are so that I can attract more of them.

I can't blame you. I'd definitely be planting some specifically for those cool moths... emoticon
