Re: First butterfly of 2013

The final count was 16 butterflies and I was able to get everything IDed that I was unable to do on my own. A second trip on the 29th yielded 12 butterflies and another cool new moth. The best thing about the second trip is that I got great shots of the number one butterfly tthat I was hoping for. The first trip none of them would land. I'm working on getting the photos posted so that I can share. The fishing was no good due to the high winds but at least I remembered my gear the 2nd time.

This is the earliest that I've ever gone out looking. When I saw how dry and brown everything looked I was certain that I wouldn't see anything. The weather was iffy on the second trip so there were periods of sun and clouds. Butterflies much prefer bright sunny days. I was quite fortunate and blessed. We've gotten a fair amount of rain lately so hopefully things will green up out there soon. Our lepidopterists club will be having a field trip out there in May.

Oh things 'should' be looking awesome come May!
I hope things to green up there. I hope you all do not stay in that awful drought you've been in. emoticon

So far we've been getting a decent amount of rain but who knows what Summer will look like. It has been sprinkling today and the forecast calls for storms tomorrow but a wonderful Friday and Saturday.

Hope you got beneficial rain. We are getting some today. Of course we would. I spent all day yesterday trying to get/understand our automated sprinkler system. Had to adjust several heads as they were on...so I ended up getting soaked TWICE... emoticon Now today....it's raining. emoticon

Maybe you'll bloom too now that you've been watered. That kind of reminds me of something that happened one of the last times that I was in the garden with the neighbor kids. I wanted to get a drink of water from the hose. One of the youngest kids was holding it and gave the spray attachment a squeeze. I was right in the path of the water.

Not sure if I bloomed...but I know I gave the neighbors a good laugh!
The sprinklers are still not working right, several are broke, once section of the main floods..., so we have to have someone come out Monday and look.. emoticon

Our OWN sprinklers are working (unless I get grass stuck in them when I mow) but now the main irrigation pump from the city is down...caught fire! LOL So we have very low irrigation water till they get it changed out this week sometime. emoticon
