The Monarchs finally arrived
At long last the Monarchs finally made an appearance. I had just gotten back to the house when I saw one fly across the yard. Crazy me nearly broke a leg trying to get out of the car and into the house to grab a camera. By the time I got back outside there were two of them. They both led me a merry chase around the whole back yard and into the vacant lot behind us. I did manage to get photos of one which I'll be posting soon.

Re: The Monarchs finally arrived
I totally agree with that. There will be no breaking of any body parts before vacation. I've seen a couple more Monarchs since the first ones.

Re: The Monarchs finally arrived
Nope....still NO Monarchs. Maybe we are not close enough to any Monarch flyways or breeding or feeding grounds.

Re: The Monarchs finally arrived
The reports so far are saying that the numbers were extremely low at the overwintering sites. The Spring that we had didn't help. I feel blessed to have had the one that I did.

Re: The Monarchs finally arrived
The numbers in Mexico over the Winter were at a historic low. That worries me enough by itself. Then the nasty Spring put a double whammy on them. That's why I brought in almost every caterpillar that I found to raise indoors.

Re: The Monarchs finally arrived
Oh and we had a horrible Spring here. Everything was beautiful, all the fruit trees bloomed out, the roses budded and we got a week long hard freeze!
NO fruit, and the roses that did bloom, look like crap.
And now there is no reprieve from the heat. It's been over a 100 for most of the better of 3 weeks now.
