Re: Dragonfly Facts

Thankfully I haven't suffered any sort of bee or related sting for quite a while. I have a very strong reaction that is just shy of an allergy to bee stings. What is really amazing though is that with all of the honeybees and yellowjackets around my gardens I've never once been stung. I even had a honeybee land on the end of my nose with no consequences.

My tree that is supposed to be cut down is blooming and there are tons of bees. no one has been stung and i do a lot of cleaning up the yard around there lately so they are definitely not aggressive. which is nice.

It really does seem true that if you don't show aggression to them then they'll return the favor. I saw a program that had a short feature on bees and their amazing sense of smell. It is entirely possible that bees pick up on chemical smells from a person's body. Aggression might produce a certain kind of smell to them that could trigger a negative reaction.

The honeybees have discovered the joys of the Sedum in my butterfly shaped garden. They have also been enjoying the fruit that I keep out for the butterflies.

The only dragonflies that I have seen so far were by the creek that runs through our housing development. I was out taking a walk to look for butterflies when I saw the dragonflies.

With a wingspan of 19 centimetres, the Giant Helicopter Damselfly is the largest-living member of the Odonates (the group that includes Dragonflies & Damselflies). The largest Dragonfly known to science is Meganeura. It lived roughly 300 million years ago & had a wingspan of up to 80 centimetres.
