Plants for Butterflies

I'm creating this topic as a place to share information on plants that people have found to be popular with butterflies in their area among other things. This is also a place to share information on host plants for the caterpillars. I'll be including links to sites that supply information on butterfly plants and sites that sell them. Feel free to include photos of your popular butterfly plants.

First I have a visual aide that I created for classroom presentations that I have been doing since last year. It shows photos of several nectar plants that I have had very good luck with in North Texas.

Here are some links to plant lists for both nectar and use as host plants for caterpillars. The Gardens With Wings page for nectar plants also has a link to host plants. The Butterfly Site page has the same.

General Nectar Plants

Gardens With Wings - Nectar Plants

The Butterfly Site - Nectar Plants

I did not get to till my back yard last week but I think I'm going to do it this weekend. I just have to figure out how....I have the machine....I'll call my dad and ask. I am hoping to plant some English Ivory and some trumpet vines as well as a tomato plant I just got! I'm so excited.

Here is a link that may help you. I can't say for sure which of the ones on this site are native to that specific area but this is a start.

The Butterfly Site
