Re: Butterflies and Moths
Oh my............those are simply gorgeous! And I mean "speechless" type gorgeous!
One question? How to you get the focus to be ONLY on the object in front.....and blur out the the stuff in the background?

Re: Butterflies and Moths
My thanks to you. I was rather pleased with them.
The focus effect is produced by using a shallow depth of field. This is achieved by shooting at a low f-stop. I usually shoot at f4 to f5 most of the time. If I want a sharper overall image I go with anywhere from f16 to f22 depending on lighting conditions.

Re: Butterflies and Moths
Not every camera has as much control over the aperature and shutter speeds as mine does. I'm not familiar with your camera so I don't know what sort of settings that it has. Here are a few shots taken in the butterfly house last year. The last one is an Atlas Moth, one of the world's largest.

Re: Butterflies and Moths
It's really hard to say. I thought I'd add a few more. The last one is a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth. These were taken in Wisconsin last year.

Re: Butterflies and Moths
I know what you mean. It was a real treat when I saw a Hummingbird Moth here in my garden. Here are some more shots. The first one is another Atlas Moth from the butterfly house. It has close to a 12 inch wingspan. The light colored, teardrop shaped patches on the wings are actually transparent, allowing you to see through them. It helps to camouflage them.
