Re: Flowers and Plants

I will be expecting pictures as your project progresses. Here are a few more shots that I dug up. The first one is one of my Giant Coneflowers. The second one is one of my Asters that did something very weird last year. It bloomed again in November which they have never done since being planted.

THAT is one big old Coneflower! I do not believe I've ever seen giant ones before!
And that is strange about the Asters. emoticon

Those Coneflowers have been quite durable through all of our diverse conditions. Another benefit is that the grasshoppers don't seem to care for them. They are showing healthy growth already this year. I love my Asters and so do all of my pollinators.

Good reason to plant those Coneflowers! emoticon

I have several of the normal ones too in a variety of colors. They are growing nicely but it will be some time before I have flowers. I've gathered a bunch of seeds in the hopes of getting more established elsewhere.

I'm looking for something that grows in mostly shade. I was hoping for something flowering, but I may end up with Hostas... It is for the front of the house. As our trees get healthier, now that we are caring for them, they shade the house nicely, but the front flower bed is getting less and less sun. My Peonies are barely making it...they are right on one corner that gets a wee bit more sun...
But Hostas have a lot of different leaf styles and such...

I'm not sure how Turk's Cap would do in your area. Do you know what planting zone you are located in. Turk's Cap is good for shade to full sun and has flowers that butterflies and hummingbirds like. I'm including a link with some interesting info.

Woodland Phlox also known as Wild Sweet William might be a nice choice too.

Those both sound lovely....the Turk's cap is a larger bush, so not sure that would work where I need it. But I would love to plant some...maybe in the back.

The Woodland Phlox, would be perfect as a fill in between my Hosta's, for some color...

Thank you...I'll ask the nursery here about them. emoticon
