Strange Garden Tales
So what is the most unusual thing you've planted in your garden?
I didn't have a good answer for that until a few days ago when I was planting a few new flowers. My strangest thing is a toad.
While digging the whole to place the plant into I noticed something weird wiggling at the bottom of the hole. I carefully pulled the thing out with my hand and found it to be a hibernating toad.
The poor thing was dazed and just sat there looking at me. Seeing as it was too ealry for it to be out I simply found another spot where I knew that I wouldn't be digging. I dug a new hole, placed the toad into it and covered it up again.

Re: Strange Garden Tales
I know that frogs hibernate in the mud.
never found a toad hibernating but we did find some as kids in our driveway.
we had many frogs in our pond behind the house.
I know how I can sleep now, I need a frog ed to play while I am sleeping.

Re: Strange Garden Tales
I have to use one of those "sound machines" to sleep in these campgrounds...I leave it on the running creek/frogs sound!

Re: Strange Garden Tales
I seem to remember hearing that toads hibernate but had no idea how. Last year I had a large number of toads. I loved to go outside and sit in the garden right around dusk. The toads came out to hunt at about that time. Occasionally I'd see other critters too. I saw an amazing hummingbird moth one night.
