Re: Winter help for our bird friends
I love wall mounted aquariums. Right now I have a 10 gallon, a 20 gallon and a 29 gallon set up with fish and critters. There is also a 20 gallon that I'm gradually buying supplies for. I have plans to put it in the dining room right next to where my computer sits. I forgot that I have a Betta size tank of about 2.5 gallons with a Betta in it too. Sitting in front of the tanks is a passtime of mine too.

Re: Winter help for our bird friends
They are so soothing to watch...
My doctors waiting room is separated into 4 big rooms...one for adults, one for everyone, one for older kids and one for young babies....dividing the rooms are two "at least" 100 gallon fish tanks...that can be seen from both sides, they sort of make part of the wall.
I love watching them...

Re: Winter help for our bird friends
That sounds really amazing. Now there is more good news on the aquatic side. A lady that I work with is going to give me an almost fully equipped 20 gallon bowfront kit. The only thing missing is a heater and I already have one.
Well I finally managed to get some food for the birds outside though it wasn't quite what I intended to get. The WalMart closest to me was very low on stock of wild bird seed that wasn't more than I could afford. I ended up buying some domestic seed that contained most of the same stuff anyway. They did have suet cakes so my suet feeders are full again. The wild birds seem perfectly happy eating canary food or whatever it is.

SWEET!!! Enjoy that tank!
And I think right about now, the birds are willing to eat just about anything!

That they did. I kept them happy for quite a while. Now it is the hummingbirds' turn. Keeping up with them is tough. Boy can they drink.

Re: Winter help for our bird friends
We've not really seen them here this year.....the park has one feeder by the playground like this:
:fedhum:
And when the hummers are here, it's dry every day!

Re: Winter help for our bird friends
My biggest problem lately is the wind tipping the feeders so much that the sugar water is dumping on the ground. I found a solution for the ones on my dome trellis. They are secured with garden velcro to the vertical bars of the trellis. It works very well. I've been toying with the idea of buying more feeders, maybe bigger ones that the wind won't be able to move as easily.

Re: Winter help for our bird friends
WOW....you must really be getting the winds. But I hear ya....we had them in Cruces something horrible, totally messed up my lungs!
I wonder if those bigger ones would sway enough to dump the food out or maybe just swing a bit.....can't hurt to buy one and give it a try...

Re: Winter help for our bird friends
Well I know for a fact that the two larger ones that I already have don't spill as much even when not anchored.
