New family member at last
It has taken some time but there is finally a new canine in the house. My friend Sean and I went to the adoption center the day before we got our new girl Gypsy. I found a lovely German Shepherd that I wanted but she was gone by the time I could get Rick up there the following day.
Not wanting to give up I took another look around and found another lovely girl. Everything went smoothly and we took her home. She is pretty quiet and very loving. She gets along great with both adults and children but dogs are another matter so far. Gypsy goes ballistic if she sees another dog. Have to work on that problem. My girl loves walks and being brushed. Getting her used to going up and down stairs was a challenge at first but that could have been because she was still sore from her spaying surgery. Now she walks the stairs like a champ. Here are her first pics.

Oh she is a beauty!! And not getting the other one may just have been the way of the Universe. Gypsy (love the name, BTW ♥)...may be the one you were supposed to have...

Re: New family member at last
She is quite the loving and devoted dog. I came up with the name after a lot of thought. We've discovered that she does not like thunderstorms at all. It seems we have that in common. Her first bath was quite an adventure too. We did it outside to minimize the mess. I don't think that I could have lifted her into the bathtub anyway.

Re: New family member at last
Our Shepard/husky mix never liked Thunderstorms or Fireworks!
And I made a step for our Yukon Belle to walk up into the bathtub..(one inside and one outside.)...because I wanted to bath her in a Minnesota Winter!

Re: New family member at last
The step idea sounds like a winner. I need to have an option for Winter here. How did you make your one for inside?

Re: New family member at last
Hubby just nailed together some 1X4's, for "steps"...and screwed them onto some 2X4's going down to the floor.....a piece of scrap plywood, thick, 3/4 inch across the top...another set going down into the tub..
Then I "Painted on" this stuff on the legs....
Plasti-Dip...
I THINK I found mine at a hardware store....
It's great for wood handles on shovels, wheelbarrows....stuff that weathers and gets splinters too.
OR...as cheap as these are you could get two sets...one for going in and one for coming out.
Folding pet step

Re: New family member at last
You are very industrious. The plastic ones look pretty decent too and would be less work. Gypsy went fishing with me for the first time yesterday. She didn't seem very impressed by the fish I caught. I'm glad that it didn't start thrashing or I think she would have freaked out.

Re: New family member at last
I think, had I found those plastic ones, I would have gotten them, they fold up!
Our Yukon used to steal our fish...or jump in the lake after them...

I haven't taken her out to any of the lakes yet though I want to. It turns out that she does get along with other dogs given the chance.

Re: New family member at last
Oh that is good....
Did you hear hubby and I are going to have a dog too?
My Brother in law (my little sister who died 2 years ago)..her husband died two weeks ago. Leaving my nephew who is in college basically on his own. He's okay...but is really heart broken that no one seems to want his Dad's two dogs. He grew up with them...but he's in college.
The younger on someone else may take...but the really old one. Shania, is a German Shorthair Pointer. And she has had some health problems. But nothing to serious, but no one wants her.
SO....hubby and me are driving 800 miles this weekend to go pick her up and give her a home here, for as long as she has left.
This should be fun..my cats do not care for dogs, especially the mostly wild feral cat, Miss Kitty. And old Shania is sort of afraid of cats.
They may just end up leaving each other alone...I HOPE! But my house is going to be a zoo for a while...
